"People around me answer all the time instead of me. How do I get them out of the habit of interrupting?"If you want to make a difference, there are two ways:
Option #1.
Find the company of like-minded people who will be willing to accept any pace of your speech and appreciate your opinion, not the one who is impudently interrupting.
Option #2.
Sometimes people don't understand hints and general phrases - then only direct instructions in polite, correct form will work. Talk to the people around you so that they can hear that you don't like their behavior.
Select the right words, formulate and rehearse certain phrases, adjust the volume of your voice, show confidence. They need to be clear that you don't like being interrupted and won't let you respond on your own.
