Each of us has at least a couple of acquaintances who could easily be called nerds. What do you think this kind of nerdiness is usually associated with?
The top five nerdy activities according to a University of Essex study are:
- data analysis;
- accounting;
- taxation/insurance;
- banking;
- cleaning (cleaning).
Also "unpopular," according to the data obtained, are people who are into observing animals, mathematics, religion, spending time watching TV, or sleeping a lot.
As the researchers emphasize, the purpose of the study is not to select categories of citizens for jokes or disdain, but to discover which professions and personal traits are stigmatized, even if one is engaged in a truly useful activity. What to do about such stigma is another question.
