Observe the pupils
The size of your pupils matters, too. Watching our pupils is not as difficult as it seems. When we show interest, or worry, our pupils involuntarily dilate.
Poker players use the same trick these days. If you have to watch a tournament, note that many players appear in the final round wearing dark glasses. No matter how skilled a poker player you are, you still can't control your nervous system.
Like it or not, your pupils have a life of their own and dilate when you're excited. So if the light in the room stays the same and your partner's pupils dilate, it means he's interested in you, or he's afraid of you.
