Internet and power outages in central AfricaMuch of west and central Africa has been left without internet service as operators of several undersea cables reported outages.
In recent years, Africa has experienced network outages caused by cable damage. But today's outages "point to something bigger, this is one of the most serious," said Isik Mater, director of research at NetBlocks, a group that documents Internet outages around the world.
Liberia, Benin, Ghana and Burkina Faso have been hit hard, according to Netblocks, which monitors cybersecurity and Internet management. The impact of such cable outages is compounded as networks try to circumvent the damage, potentially reducing the bandwidth available to other countries, Mater said.
