My father commissioned in the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant at OCS, Fort Benning, Georgia, (now Fort Moore) on November 6, 1963.
Two of my siblings served when my father was still in service, two Warrant Officers. I was commissioned May 9, 2008, in Oxford, Mississippi (ROTC), when one sibling still served.
Before I left the Army, the son of one of those siblings commissioned from ROTC, and he still serves today as a Major (my nephew).
Tomorrow marks 60 consecutive years with a Keshel wearing officer insignia in the United States Army, zero days missed. My nephew, barring an extremely long career affording him the rank of a general officer AND his son continuing in that path, will likely conclude that streak at around 70 years in the making.
We have toured Vietnam (three times), Kosovo, Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Latin America, Okinawa, all across the United States, and to our distant destinations across the seas, Hawaii and Alaska.
