Sometimes, the most crucial victories to the most important battles are not necessarily won in that moment. Sometimes, you just hold the line. Endure. Wear the enemy down. Move toward reinforcements. Maybe you Lose. Again: Hold the line. Endure. Wear the enemy down. Move toward reinforcements. Lose. Again: Hold the line. Endure. Wear the enemy down. Move toward reinforcements. Maybe you Lose again. Keep doing it until the true enemy is so exhausted from “winning” tactical pit stops that when they wake up and realize where they are, they are surrounded by energized, fresh faces with bedrock resolve and spirit to conquer the major battle at the right moment…the right reinforcement at the right time is a tide turner!

General Nathanael Greene brilliantly wore Cornwallis down doing this in the Carolinas. Greene was one of the most skilled and talented generals during the Revolutionary War. However, he lost time and time again in short, tactical battles, but he knew if he could just hold that line, do the right thing, be a visionary for long- game and strategy with excellence, and with the help of steadfast Patriots, he could get the right help at the right time. It paid off, ending in the surrender of Cornwallis, a devastating blow to the British. He essentially harassed Cornwallis all the way to a major victory. He wore Cornwallis’ Redcoats down, but not the Patriots!

Recognize as the Christian, you are
The one ultimately victorious, and therefore, you can keep moving toward the Ultimate Reinforcement, King Jesus! Even when you experience temporary setback, view it as “moving you back toward reinforcements.” Help is on the way! Don’t grow weary. Don’t give up. Don’t lose heart. You will reap a great harvest by not giving up, and the ultimate blow to the great adversary is inevitable and eminent!

Wear ‘em out, friends. Wear. Them. Out. Hold the Line. But recognize a “loss” is a tactical move in the True Church and can be an actual stepping stone! A loss to the True Church is not a loss measured by the world’s standard. The True Church is always moving toward the ultimate Victory!
