International Asteroid Day

1894 – The Tower Bridge was opened in London. It crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and has become a world-famous symbol of London.

1908 – over the central part of Siberia, in the interfluve of the Lower Tunguska and the Lena rivers, a giant ball, called the Tunguska meteorite, flew by and then exploded.

1941 – The first two combat launchers BM-13 «Katyusha» were assembled.

1972 – Leap second (23:59:60) was introduced to coordinate universal time for the first time.

1982 – the first search and rescue satellite «Kosmos-1383» was launched.
