2021-10-16 21:01:28 Pentagon offers unspecified ‘condolence payments’ for 7 Afghan children & aid worker murdered in botched drone strike

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby revealed the offer on Friday, stating that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made a “commitment” to the Akhmadi family for compensation following the August 29 drone strike, “including offering ex gratia condolence payments” and State Department assistance in relocating family members to the United States.

The military did not disclose the amounts it would pay out to the Akhmadi family. However, previous condolence payments have been criticized as paltry in the past, with relatives of victims in one strike in Kunduz in 2015 receiving just $6,000. Civilians wounded in the same operation were paid $3,000.

2021-10-16 20:08:01 Australia is making the most out of the COAL BOOM

We already know the demand is there, with China requiring increasing coal to bridge its fuel demand gap, but Australia is one of the few remaining nations outside of Asia to continue to back coal as a major energy source.

Earlier this month, Australia approved its third coal mine extension within a month. In September, Environment Minister Sussan Ley approved extensions for the Whitehaven Coal and Wollonggong Coal mines. The latest extension approval was for the Glencore Mangoola thermal coal mine in New South Wales, allowing it to continue production for eight more years, mining approximately 52 million tons of coal.

2021-10-16 19:11:02 Chicago’s mayor & police union duel in court over Covid-19 vaccine mandate as gun violence continues to careen out of control

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s battle with the city’s police union over her Covid-19 vaccine mandate has escalated, with both sides suing each other in a dispute that may hinder efforts to fight rampant violent crime.

The city on Thursday filed a complaint against the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and its president, John Catanzara, for encouraging officers to ignore the vaccine mandate, including Friday’s deadline to report their inoculation status. The FOP shot back on Friday with a lawsuit of its own, demanding that the issue be settled in arbitration and alleging that Lightfoot failed to properly negotiate her vaccine order with the union.

Florida judge says ‘NO’ to businesses showing vaccination status - passport ban WILL stand

Judge J. Layne Smith has said a law prohibiting businesses from requiring proof of vaccination from customers does not violate the first amendment, ABC reported.

A Sarasota shop, Bead Adobe, alleged the policy was a speech issue preventing them from operating a safe environment for customers - an assertion that was quickly slapped down.

Hospital staff are still unable to access systems and medical records, after a ransomware attack on the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, The Times of Israel has reported.

“We’ve seen similar events [abroad] …where hospitals were attacked, and they needed about three to six months just to get to a point where they could start working [normally] again,”cybersecurity consultant Einat Meyron told ToI.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported the unknown hackers demanded $10 million dollars to end the ransomware siege.
