2021-10-16 19:55:09 Due to non-payment payment of salaries, Rufus Giwa polytechnic, Owo, RUGIPO, workers have embarked on an indefinite strike.

During a congress held within the institution on Friday The poly workers under the aegis of Non-Academic Staff Union, (NASU), and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics, (SSANIP), took the decision to embark on the indefinite strike action.

From information gathered the workers were being owed 11 months salary arrears and non promotion within the last two years.

According to the NASU's Chairman of the polytechnic, Comrade Obayoriade, the union was left with no option to embark on the indefinite strike after all available means of resolving the impasse had failed.

Comrade Obayoriade, who made known that the union had written twice to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the issue but their letters had continued to receive no response, stated that the government should be blamed for the challenges.

According to him, the only way to douse the tension within the school was for the government to pay some of the arrears, as some of their staff had died due to the health challenges occasioned by the non-payment of salaries.

On his part, the Public Relations Director of the institution, Mr. Samuel Ojo said the Head of Service, Mr. John Adeyemo recently met with the management and some union members and promised to pay some of the arrears in the next few days.
