-PRITAM SINGH-WPCF Handyman Subsidy

The WP Community Fund, a registered charity, launched a handyman subsidy scheme not too long ago, and has started receiving applications. The scheme provides a modest subsidy of up to $50 for household repairs targetted at residents who live alone in WP wards. The scheme covers general handyman work in homes too, beyond just electrical and plumbing repairs.
I visited Madam J last night who had to replace her refuse chute hopper. The new hopper cost around $150, so the $50 subsidy helped save her some money.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to your WP MPs to find out more about this scheme. If you are a social worker who looks after older singles in Aljunied, Hougang or Sengkang constituencies, your clients could get some modest cost of living relief through this scheme. -DENNIS TAN-Started the weekend packing and distributing food packs to some of our residents in Hougang SMC before catching up with our residents in my estate walk at Hougang Avenue 5 and Hougang Avenue 7. Later in the afternoon I joined our volunteers at another food distribution point where in addition to their regular food packs, some of our residents also received their new reading glasses, courtesy of the Essilor Vision Foundation. I am thankful to the Foundation and all our food donors and volunteers for their generous donation and assistance!

-KENNETH FOO-At WP, we work as team to meet our objective of engaging residents through ground visit weekly. When I was busy with my work commitments on Saturday, the team continued on with the visit to Block 58 Hawker and Simei. In the late morning, another team visited Mariam Estate.

-LEON PERERA-Today's market outreach took us to the coffee shop at Serangoon Avenue 4, which was packed for breakfast. With the post-Covid opening up, it's good to see larger groups at coffee shops and more activity at the Serangoon Community Park. Some months ago, we installed toilets at the park to enhance the user experience. This morning, it was lovely to meet many people I had met before. Conversations touched on municipal issues, national issues like inflation and the need for fair and balanced politics...and the first two episodes of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series!

-FADLI FAWZI-It was a beautiful evening in the quiet neighbourhood of Lengkong Tiga. A perfect setting for Team Marine Blue to start our outreach to residents and supporters. The shorter flats gave the area an open air feel, which we were grateful for considering the humid weather.
Towards the end of our house visits we met a supporter who asked us about our durian trip. Having volunteered for team Eunos, I knew how anticipated these trips were, especially after on hiatus for so long due to Covid. A welcome sign of things returning to normal with a sense of gratitude for the things we used to take for granted.

-CHUA KHENG WEE-9 HDB blocks in Marsiling will be acquired, to facilitate the expansion of Woodlands Checkpoint. The HDB shared that the affected flat owners will be offered the same benefits as that of SERS, but more importantly, I think it’s also quite clear why these flats have to be ‘en-bloc’ – the checkpoints are just too crowded!
The selection of 4 specific HDB blocks in AMK Ave 3 for SERS back in April, however, was not that straightforward. Sure, we already know from the press release that the factors used to choose precincts for SERS include: the precincts’ redevelopment potential, the availability of suitable replacement sites and the Government’s financial resources.
And that only about 5% of all HDB flats are suitable for redevelopment, but most have already been selected.
However, what are the weightages of the factors used, the process to determine the timing of SERS, and just how many more flats would qualify?
