Hi SGN Community
TGIF! You might know that Emerald Hill is a ‘gram worthy spot with lots of quaint houses and bars - but #didyouknow that it used to be a nutmeg and fruit orchard?
Established in 1837 by the acting Postmaster General William Cuppage, it was bought over by businessmen in 1900, and small pieces of the land were sold to new owners who went on to build the terrace houses and shophouses we still see today
Adorned with beautiful tiles and designs, these shophouses have cross-cultural design influences, ranging from traditional Peranakan styles to Sino-Portuguese architecture! You can even find traditional Teochew gateways and vintage cars (
if you’re lucky!)
Explore the gorgeous neighbourhood of Emerald Hill and look out for the little signages along the way for tidbits and history about each of these buildings!
