Russia rejects the UN HRC resolution and refuses to cooperate with the established special mechanism.

On
Friday, the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council, at the initiative of 26 EU countries, approved the draft resolution "The situation of human rights in the Russian Federation."

Earlier, members of the UN Human Rights Council approved the appointment of a special rapporteur on the Russian Federation for a period of one year at the request of Western countries. His name is scheduled to be announced at the end of March 2023.

Of the 47 members, only 17 voted in favor. The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation commented on the results of the vote:

”To be honest, I would like our partners to more clearly state their position in the voting, first of all Armenia and Uzbekistan, which, unfortunately, abstained, while Eritrea voted against,” Gennady Gatilov said.
