A march against compulsory military conscription, which the authorities are going to introduce in Latvia, will be held in Riga on October 15.

The organizers say that "the introduction of military conscription and an increase in defense spending is an ill—considered, populist decision that will adversely affect the already difficult situation in society."

"Young people are not ready to lose 1 year of their life and risk it for such a low payment," the protest organizers said in a press release.
