Infographic: Inflation Fuels Spending on Independence Day Cookouts
According to data from the National Retail Federation, Fourth of July spending on food is expected to reach a record high of $9.5 billion this year. This represents a 23% increase compared to 2014 when spending was estimated at $6.3 billion. The most popular way to celebrate Independence Day is by having a cookout, with 65% of respondents stating that they will host or participate in a barbecue or picnic. The increase in spending can be attributed to higher prices, despite a cooling inflation rate.
