Keoladeo National Park

Keoladeo National Park is located some 2km (1 ¼ miles ) south of Bharatpur city in Rajasthan state of India. Jaipur , the state capital of Rajasthan is about 175 km (109 miles ) west of Bharatpur.

The park has a history of at least 250 years. Originally this was a low land river basin. In 1726 Suraj Mal, the maharaja of Bharatpur (a princely state at that time ), constructed a bund across the confluence of the two rivers Gambhir and Banganga. The lowland was flooded and turned into a manmade water body. This attracted numerous spices of birds , especially the aquatic birds. Bharatpur happened to be in the natural path of the migratory birds.

National Ganga River Basin Authority:

Constituted in 2009 under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. It is a body for planning, coordinating and financing for both centre and state.

The main functions include:

Conservation and reduction of pollution in the Ganga River and using comprehensive planning and management.

Development of the river basin is the core approach for management. All the activities and measure are aimed at reducing pollution and relevant to river ecology.

Management of minimum ecology flow. Infrastructures like sewerage, catchment area and protection against flood.

Investigation and research project for improving the quality of water and creating public awareness to use water conservation practices.

Monitor and review of all the programmes and activities.

Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram

The Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram is a collection of 7th- and 8th-century CE religious monuments in the coastal resort town of Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The site has 40 ancient monuments and Hindu temples, including one of the largest open-air rock reliefs in the world: the Descent of the Ganges or Arjuna's Penance.

The monuments were built during the Pallava dynasty. Known as the Seven Pagodas in many colonial-era publications, they are also called the Mamallapuram temples or Mahabalipuram temples in contemporary literature. The site, restored after 1960, has been managed by the Archaeological Survey of India.
