Arctic fox The
Arctic fox is primarily a
carnivore that lives inland, away from the
coasts. They are dependent on the presence of smaller animals (
most often lemmings) to survive . Arctic foxes also hunt for sea
birds, fish, and other marine life. Smaller rodent populations waver between times of
abundance and scarcity, which leaves the Arctic fox vulnerable when these
creatures are low in numbers. The
Arctic Ocean is about 5.4 million square miles—about 1.5 times as big as the US—but it is the world’s smallest ocean. Learn more about the Arctic and what
WWF is doing to help protect it.
The Arctic fox was impacted tremendously by the
fur trade because of its extremely high quality pelt. It's still hunted now for its fur, particularly by native populations who live in close proximity to them. The
fur trade has decreased dramatically and the Arctic fox is not as vulnerable to overexploitation as it once was.

Ranthambore National Park Ranthambore is a huge
wildlife reserve located in
Rajasthan, northern India, near a town called Sawai Madhopur. Cities close to the park are
Jaipur (155 kilometres) and
Agra (260 kilometres).
Along with being home to
tigers, there are other
iconic beasts within the park. In Kachida Valley visitors can watch
panthers, and in
Lakarda Anantpura, there are
sloth bears.
The ancient
Ranthambore Fort is a must see along with a stop at
Jogi Mahal, an old hunting lodge of the royal family. You can visit the
Chamatkar Jain Temple and explore one of Rajasthan's most renowned and oldest temples,
Trinetra Ganesh Temple, or learn about natural history at the
Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum. See all attractions in Ranthambore.

Konark Temple The word
Konark means corner (kona) and sun (ark) and is dedicated to the sun god. It was built at the mouth of the Chandrabhaga River but the waterline receded over the years .
Though today,
the temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and much of the structure has deteriorated, it is still one of the most popular temples in India. The structure has been built using black granite and it took
12 years to complete its architecture.
One of the most fascinating things of this temple was that the
sun idol was suspended in the air as there were magnets used in the construction. So when you entered the main temple, you'd see a
tall idol in mid-air.Join @UPSC_Environment_Ecology
