NEERI of Nagpur develops new technology for COVID testing
In Maharashtra, a new technology has been developed by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute-NEERI of Nagpur for COVID testing. The Saline Gargle RT-PCR technique for testing of COVID samples is developed by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute of Nagpur which comes under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - CSIR. This technique has also been approved by the ICMR.

J&K becomes first UT to provide relief to COVID victims’ families
Jammu and Kashmir has become the first Union Territory to provide relief to COVID affected; Saksham to provide special pension and scholarship to COVID victims’ families. The Administrative Council (AC), under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today approved the grant of financial relief through Special Assistance Scheme for COVID Mortalities (SASCM/Saksham) to the families of COVID victims. Additionally, the scheme will also provide special scholarships to children who lost their earning parent(s)/sibling(s)/guardian(s) to COVID. The special scholarship will be paid annually at the rate of Rs. 20,000 through DBT to children studying up to 12th standard and Rs. 40,000 for higher education.

Ministry of Education launches YUVA- Prime Minister’s Scheme For Mentoring Young Authors
The Ministry of Education launched YUVA- Prime Minister’s Scheme For Mentoring Young Authors. It is an Author Mentorship programme to train young and budding authors belows 30 years. The launch of YUVA (Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors) is in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to encourage young writers to write about India's freedom struggle. It was during Mann ki Baat in January this year that Prime Minister Modi called upon the young generation to write about freedom fighters, and incidents associated with freedom struggle.

Finance Ministry constitutes GoM to look into matter of concessions & exemptions from GST to COVID relief materials
Union Finance Ministry has constituted a Group of Ministers, GoM to look into the matter of concessions and exemptions from GST to COVID relief materials. Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma has been named as the Convenor of the GoM which is constituted of total eight members including Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Nitinbhai Patel, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar, Transport Minister of Goa Mauvin Godinho and State Finance Ministers of Kerala, Odisha, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Aashritha V Olety Becomes India’s First Woman Flight Test Engineer
Aashritha V Olety, an officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF), has graduated from the Air Force Test Pilot School to become the first woman flight test engineer in the country. As a flight test engineer, Olety will be responsible for evaluating aircraft and airborne systems before their induction into the armed forces.

CRPF DG Kuldiep Singh gets additional charge of NIA
Director General of Central Reserve Police Force, CRPF Kuldiep Singh has been given additional charge of Director General of National Investigation Agency, NIA. Mr. Singh will hold the additional post after 31st or this month after superannuation of Y C Modi. Union Home Ministry has informed that Mr. Singh will continue to hold the additional charge till appointment of next DG, NIA or any further orders in this regard.

Jagjit Pavadia elected as President of Vienna based International Narcotics Control Board
Jagjit Pavadia, the former Narcotics Commissioner of India, has been elected as the President of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB). Pavadia, a retired officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs), is the first Indian to be appointed as the Chief of the international organization and the second woman to hold this office.
