CSIR-NPL (National Physical Laboratory) organised Metrology Conclave under the ‘One Week One Lab’ (OWOL) programme.

CSIR-NPL is celebrating the ‘One Week One Lab’ programme (17-21 April 2023) which was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Science & Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh.

A one-day event, Metrology Conclave highlighted the core aspects of CSIR-NPL i.e., metrology.

CSIR-NPL, New Delhi, is one of the few premier laboratories established under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) before independence on January 04, 1947.

It is the National Metrology Institute (NMI) of India.

The ‘Metrology Conclave’ aims to create awareness among the masses about precise and accurate measurement and its importance for a nation to achieve prosperity.

The aim of the One Week One Lab program is to create awareness about the available technologies and services present at NPL among potential stakeholders, to provide solutions to societal problems, to sensitise the masses about the importance of precise measurements, and to develop scientific temperament among masses, especially among students.

One of the major highlights of the Metrology Conclave was the “NPL” Waste to Wealth policy aimed at dealing with silicon waste that is being generated on a large scale based on increasing demand for the same in the country.

Emphasis was laid on establishing secondary standards metrology laboratories in association with CSIR Laboratories, BIS and QCI.

Indian scientists have identified a new wave – EMIC, a form of plasma wave in the Indian Antarctic Station, Maitri.

Indian scientists have identified a unique form of plasma wave at Maitri, the Indian Antarctic station, which plays a key role in the radiation belt of Earth.

The analysis of the wave could further help in safeguarding Indian assets in Low Earth Orbit.

The Electromagnetic Ion Cyclotron (EMIC) waves identified in Antarctica play an important role in the precipitation of killer electrons, which have speeds close to the speed of light.

The waves are formed when low-energy ions in the magnetosphere interact with electromagnetic fields, causing the ions to spiral along the magnetic field lines.

A magnetosphere is that area of space around a planet that is controlled by the planet’s magnetic field.

The magnetosphere shields the earth from solar and cosmic particle radiations and also from the erosion of the atmosphere by the solar winds.

The study of plasma waves provides us with information on regions inaccessible to us, transport mass and energy across different regions, how they interact with charged particles, and control the overall dynamics of the Earth’s magnetosphere.

Scientists from the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) collected data between 2011 and 2017 using the Induction Coil Magnetometer, installed at the Indian Antarctic station Maitri to bring out several aspects of the ground observation of the EMIC waves.

They found the location of the generation of waves in space and also suggested that the lower-frequency waves modulate the high-frequency waves.

2023-04-21 13:00:24 Accordingly, the Ministry of AYUSH has taken several measures to promote traditional medicine-organised virtual conference of experts and practitioners of traditional medicine, conducted the first Expert Working Group (EWG) on traditional medicine wherein Draft Regulations of the EWG on traditional medicine were approved at an expert level and will be further subjected to other respective country administrative procedures and finally to be adopted at the Head of the States Summit.

The B2B conference was organised in line with the theme “SECURE” SCO, where ‘S’ stands for Security for Citizens, ‘E’ for Economic Development, ‘C’ for Connectivity, ‘U’ for Unity, ‘R’ for Respect for Sovereignty and Territorial Unity and ‘E’ for Environment Protection.

A total of 214 participants attended the B2B conference, out of which 83 were international delegates from 16 SCO countries and 131 were Indian delegates.

25 SCO countries come together to promote traditional medicine.

Details :

Under India’s presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the B2B Conference and Expo along with National Arogya Summit held in Guwahati has brought together 25 SCO countries to promote traditional medicine.

The promotion of traditional medicine can contribute to economic development, and environmental protection and will also help in achieving the goal of health security among SCO nations.

In 2017 India attained full member status and assumed the Presidency of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the year 2023 in September 2022.

India took the initiative for a new SCO expert working group on traditional medicine.
