Brakonerlik va tabiiy yashash muhitining yo'q qilinishi tufayli Buxoro kiyiklari soni 2000 yillarning boshlarida 350-taga kamaygan. Ushbu muammoga javoban O'zbekiston muvaffaqiyatli tabiatni muhofaza qilish tashabbuslarni amalga oshirdi va Zarafshon milliy bog'ida kiyiklarni boqishni boshladi. Bugungi kunda O'zbekistonda 1500-ga yaqin buxoro kiyiklari mavjud!
