Once you have MANA in your wallet, you will be able to purchase pixels for LAND in Genesis City. The auction is divided into four phases: A, B, C and D. In Phase A you will receive a 50% discount on the price of a pixel in Genesis City. In Phase D, pixels will cost ten times as much as in Phase A (4 x 10ยนโต MANA = 1 pixel).
Eighty percent of the land will be sold during the auction and distributed proportionally among all participants depending on their contributions. By participating in this initial "reverse auction" you can avoid hyperinflation on Decentraland's Marketplace, as the price of LAND will start at a low first-price.
MANA tokens can be used to buy pixels for your LAND in Genesis City. To see what this looks like, read our post on "What is MANA?."
In addition to buying pixels from the Ethereum smart contract, you can buy pixels from other users on Decentraland's Marketplace. After the auction is over, users will be able to freely trade their LAND on a peer-to-peer basis.
Later on, developers and players will be able to create applications that run natively in the virtual world of Decentraland. To encourage the development and adoption of such applications, we will provide a Javascript API and other tools to facilitate content creation.

During the auction, you will be able to purchase pixels for LAND in Genesis City using MANA tokens. As part of this process, we will provide the list of valid contributions made during Phase A (see below) after Phase D. You can then transfer MANA (ETH) to the smart contract address indicated in our portal, and receive pixels for LAND.
To participate in Phase A, you must send a transaction to the ERC20 MANA Token smart contract with:
The amount of MANA (ETH) that you want to contribute; and A reference hash that can be put together with the reference hash of everybody else participating in Phase A.
The smart contract will then check that you have enough MANA to make the contribution, and if so it will send pixels for LAND back to you.
When allocating pixels to each contributor, we use a deterministic function that groups together contributions made under similar circumstances. This means that contributions made with the same references will be grouped together and assigned proportional amounts of LAND.
