Named after Nervos Foundation, an open source community dedicated to building blockchain ecosystem for developers and users all over the world, CKB is one of these tokens that everyone would definitely know as it appears as its acronym on exchanges since January 2019.
Whereas before this launch, NERVOS network has been running on 3 chains: Ethereum mainnet, Kovan testnet and POA network. Now, the NERVOS NETWORK team is working on a public chain that has been designed specifically for decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts.
Compared with Ethereum, NERVOS NETWORK focuses on scale and security. The DPoS mechanism allows for better performance as well as faster confirmation times. Security is ensured by validators who are randomly selected from stakers.
NERVOS NETWORK is also planning to offer a suite of services to developers, including but not limited to: development tools, incubation programs, technical support and more.
Well, if you're a developer, it means that there a new platform that you can use to create your dApps/smart contracts. It means that you can also get financial incentives for developing new features on the NERVOS NETWORK platform which will surely help to increase its adoption rate!
If you're an investor, it means that there are more tokens of CKB in circulation and hence a higher liquidity especially on exchanges. NERVOS NETWORK is currently in testing mode, hence all functions are limited to stakers, validators and other involved parties. The public testnet will be launched mid-May 2019 with its mainnet scheduled for September 2019.
