2022-07-13 23:26:58 (2/2) It reached him that I narrated a hadīth from the Messenger of Allāh (sallAllāhu alayhi wa sallam) where he said: “Both parties in a business transaction have a right to annul it as long as they have not separated.”  So Abū Hanīfah said: “Then what if they are on a ship, how will they separate?”  So Sufyān said: So have you ever heard anything more evil than this? 

Similarly, when these Khawarij hear the hadīth about judging as a Muslim the one says La ilāha illa Allāh and the one who prays (from whom no kufr is known), then they also say: “Then what if…” 

So, evil is their madhhab, and little is their knowledge. Stay away from them and from everyone who does not stay away from them!!  Open / Comment

2022-07-13 23:26:58 (1/2) Question: Why is it correct to name those who do not accept the Islamic signs (the shahadah, the prayer, etc.) from an unknown person, as Khawarij? 

Answer: Whoever has looked into the words of the Salaf with regards to naming the deviant innovative sects will find, that once a principle of innovation emerged, then all statements and sects that emerged and were similar to the original principle of innovation was included under its name. 

Therefore the Lafdhiyyah, the Waqifah and those who negated some of the Sifāt of Allāh – the Exalted – were all included under the name “Jahmiyyah” due to their beliefs and statements emerged from the innovation of the Jahmiyyah who invalidated the Attributes of Allāh and said that the Qurān was created. And whoever wants to affirm this can look into the third chapter of Kitab As-Sunnah by ‘Abdullāh (He was asked regarding the one who says: “My words (i.e. pronunciation) of the Qurān are created”) 

The same applies for the other innovative sects, such as the Murjiah, Qadariyyah, Mu’tazilah, Khawarij, etc. 

As for one of the principles of the Khawarij Al-Lālakāī – rahimahullāh – narrated: 

عن حميد بن هلال عن عبادة بن قرط الليثي، أنه قال للخوارج حين أخذوه بالأهواز : ارضوا مني بما رضي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم حين أسلمت. قالوا: وما رضي به منك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ؟ قال: أتيته فشهدت أن لا إله إلا الله، وأن محمدا رسول الله، فقبل ذلك مني . 

قال: فأبوا، فقتلوه 

”From Humayd ibn Hilāl (who said) regarding ‘Ubādah ibn Qurt Al-Laythī that he said to the Khawārij when they took him in Al-Ahwāz: 

‘Consider the same sufficient from me as the Messenger of Allāh (sallAllāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) considered sufficient when I accepted Islām. 

They said: ‘And what did the Messenger of Allāh (sallAllāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) consider sufficient from you?’ 

He said: ‘I came to him and testified to Lā ilāha illa Allāh and Muhammadu Rasul-Allāh, and he accepted that from me.’ 

He (i.e. Humayd) said: ‘But they rejected (to accept that) and killed him.’”
 (Sharh Usul I’tiqād Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamā’ah) 

This narration establishes that among the principles of the Khawarij is, that they do not consider sufficient what the Messenger of Allāh (sallAllāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) considered sufficient when it comes to judging upon the apparent. Rather, they have invented new conditions that has to be fulfilled before they give the judgment of Islām. (And a clear sign of their misguidance and innovation is, that they have no evidence for these “new conditions” so no matter who you ask among them, you will get a different answer). And thus, they are included under the name “Khawarij”. 

When the Prophet (sallAllāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) repeatedly said to Usamah bin Zayd (radiAllāhu ‘anhu): 

 يا أسامة أقتلته بعد ما قال لا إله إلا الله‌‌‏ 

“O, Usamah, did you kill him after he said La ilāha illa Allāh?” 

Usamah (radiAllāhu ‘anhu) wished that he had not accepted Islām before that day, so he had not made this mistake. (Find the hadīth in Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). 

But these Khawarij of today follow their leader from Ahlul-Rai, Abū Hanifah, who was known for meeting the hadīth with an answer from his own opinion that invalidated the meaning of the hadīth. 

‘Abdullāh narrated in Kitab As-Sunnah: 

حدثني محمد بن علي ، ثنا إبراهيم بن بشار ، قال : سمعت سفيان بن عيينة ، يقول : « كان أبو حنيفة يضرب بحديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الأمثال فيردها . بلغه أني أحدث بحديث عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال : » البيعان بالخيار ما لم يتفرقا « فقال أبو حنيفة : أرأيتم إن كانا في سفينة كيف يتفرقان ؟ فقال سفيان : فهل سمعتم بأشر من هذا » 

Muhammad ibn ‘Alī narrated to me and said: Ibrāhīm ibn Bashār narrated to us and said: I heard Sufyān ibn ‘Uyaynah say: Abū Hanīfah used to put forth similitudes (or examples) to the hadīth of the Messenger of Allāh (sallAllāhu alayhi wa sallam) and then oppose it. Open / Comment

When it comes to the issue of declaring takfir upon the one who commits major shirk (which means to consider him a mushrik and not a Muslim) then this very easy issue has been made difficult due to people using names and titles (such as hazimi, murji, khariji) instead of adressing the reality of the issue.

And the reality is, that the one who worships others than Allah can never be a Muwahhid (Islamic Monotheist).

And the one who does not know that Tawhid and major shirk cannot co-exist in a human being, he has not known what Tawhid is, nor what major shirk is. And he has not differentiated between the religion of Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and the religion of Abu Jahl.

And these facts are established by the Quran, the Sunnah, the ijma', the 'aql and the fitrah.

And about those who admired this hypocrite, it was narrated by Ibn Abī Hatim:

أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ الطُّوسِيُّ، فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، ثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَوْلُهُ: الَّذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ التَّوْحِيدِ قَالُوا يَا لَيْتَ لَنَا مِثْلَ مَا أُوتِيَ قَارُونُ

Mūsā ibn Hārūn At-Tūsī informed us in what he wrote to me (and said): Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad Al-Marwazī narrated to us (and said): Shaybān narrated to us, from Qatādah (regarding) His Words: “Those who desired the life of the dunyā.” “Some people among the people of Tawhīd.” They said: “If only we had the same as what Qārūn has been given.”

So to the followers of Qārūn in this issue, it is said: “Do not be a follower of Qārūn who was destroyed by Allāh the Exalted. What are you trying to achieve with displaying and boasting with your dunyā?”

To the Muslims who are impressed and desirous of this worthless dunyā, it is said: “Are you aware that you are humiliating your soul?”

Ibn Abī Ad-Dunyā narrated in “Muhāsabah An-Nafs”:

حَدَّثَنِي الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عُثْمَانَ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، قَالَ: قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ ابْنُ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ: «مَنْ كَرُمَتْ عَلَيْهِ نَفْسُهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِلدُّنْيَا عِنْدَهُ قَدْرٌ»

Al-Husayn ibn ‘Abdur-Rahmān narrated to me (and said): Abū ‘Uthmān Al-Muaddib narrated to me and said: Muhammad ibn Al-Hanafiyyah (the son of ‘Alī ibn Abī Talib) said: “Whoever considers his soul to be honorable, then dunyā has no worth for him.”

And to those who see through the adornments of dunyā and who long for the ākhirah, then rejoice by the words of Allāh:

﴿ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ وَيْلَكُمْ ثَوَابُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِمَنْ آمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا وَلَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الصَّابِرُونَ ﴾

“But those who had been given (religious) knowledge said: ‘Woe to you! The Reward of Allāh (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds.’ And no-one will attain this (i.e. these words and this understanding) except those who are patient (in following the truth).’” (Al-Qasas 28:80)

In the tafsīr of Ibn Abī Hātim regarding this verse:

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثَنَا عَامِرُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ، ثَنَا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، وَلا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلا الصَّابِرُونَ يَعْنِي: الْجَنَّةَ.

‘Abdullāh ibn Sulaymān narrated to us (and said): Al-Husayn ibn ‘Alī narrated to us (and said): ‘Āmir ibn Al-Furāt narrated to us (and said): Asbāt narrated to us, from As-Suddī who said: “And no-one will attain this, except those who are patient.” Meaning: “Paradise.”

And in the tafsīr of At-Tabarī:

وَقَوْلُهُ : ( وَلَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الصَّابِرُونَ ) يَقُولُ : وَلَا يُلَقَّاهَا : أَيْ وَلَا يُوَفَّقُ لِقِيلِ هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةِ ، وَهِيَ قَوْلُهُ : ( ثَوَابُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِمَنْ آمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا ) وَالْهَاءُ وَالْأَلْفُ كِنَايَةٌ عَنِ الْكَلِمَةِ . وَقَالَ : ( إِلَّا الصَّابِرُونَ ) يَعْنِي بِذَلِكَ : الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا عَنْ طَلَبِ زِينَةِ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ، وَآثَرُوا مَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ جَزِيلِ ثَوَابِهِ عَلَى صَالِحَاتِ الْأَعْمَالِ عَلَى لَذَّاتِ الدُّنْيَا وَشَهَوَاتِهَا ، فَجَدُّوا فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ ، وَرَفَضُوا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا .

“And His Words: “And no-one will attain this, except those who are patient.” He says: And no-one will attain it, meaning: No-one is given success to saying such words, and those (words) are His Words: “The Reward of Allāh (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds.” And the hā and alif are an expression for the word. And He said: “Except those who are patient.” Meaning with this: Those who were patient in refraining from seeking the adornments of the worldly life, and they preferred what is with Allāh of His immense reward for the good deeds over the pleasure of dunyā and its desires. So they were serious in the obedience of Allāh and they refuted the worldly life.” Open / Comment

2022-06-25 16:25:31 (1/2) What is wrong with those who display and boast with their dunyā on social media?

(A brief stop at the story of Qārūn in Sūrah Al-Qasas)

Unfortunately today many Muslims imitate the kuffār in displaying what Allāh has bestowed upon them of dunyā out of His Mercy, and not something they have achieved by their own knowledge or power.

The Qurān mentions an example of boasting and displaying what one possesses of dunyā in Surah Al-Qasas in the story of Qārūn. Allāh – the Exalted – said:

﴿إِنَّ قَارُونَ كَانَ مِنْ قَوْمِ مُوسَى فَبَغَى عَلَيْهِمْ وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْكُنُوزِ مَا إِنَّ مَفَاتِحَهُ لَتَنُوءُ بِالْعُصْبَةِ أُولِي الْقُوَّةِ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُ قَوْمُهُ لَا تَفْرَحْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْفَرِحِينَ٧٦ وَابْتَغِ فِيمَا آتَاكَ اللَّهُ الدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ وَلَا تَنْسَ نَصِيبَكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَأَحْسِنْ كَمَا أَحْسَنَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ وَلَا تَبْغِ الْفَسَادَ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُفْسِدِينَ٧٧ قَالَ إِنَّمَا أُوتِيتُهُ عَلَى عِلْمٍ عِنْدِي أَوَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَهْلَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ مِنَ الْقُرُونِ مَنْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُ قُوَّةً وَأَكْثَرُ جَمْعًا وَلَا يُسْأَلُ عَنْ ذُنُوبِهِمُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ٧٨ فَخَرَجَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ فِي زِينَتِهِ قَالَ الَّذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا يَا لَيْتَ لَنَا مِثْلَ مَا أُوتِيَ قَارُونُ إِنَّهُ لَذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ٧٩ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ وَيْلَكُمْ ثَوَابُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِمَنْ آمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا وَلَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الصَّابِرُونَ٨٠﴾

“Verily, Qārūn was from Musas people, but he behaved arrogantly towards them. And We gave him of the treasures, that of which the keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men. When his people said to him: ‘Do not rejoice (i.e. boast or praise yourself or become arrogant or vain). Verily, Allāh does not like those who rejoice. But seek, with that (wealth) which Allāh has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allāh has been good to you, and seek not corruption in the land. Verily, Allāh does not like those who corrupt.’ He said: ‘This has been given to me only because of knowledge I possess.’ Did he not know that Allāh had destroyed before him generations, men who were stronger than him in might and greater in the amount (of riches) they had collected. But the criminals will not be questioned of their sins. So he went out in front of his people in all of his adornments. Those who desired the life of the dunyā, said: ‘If only we had the same as what Qārūn has been given. Verily! He is the owner of a great fortune.’ But those who had been given (religious) knowledge said: ‘Woe to you! The Reward of Allāh (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds.’ And no-one will attain this (i.e. these words and this understanding) except those who are patient.’” (Al-Qasas 28:76-80)

About Qārūn it was narrated in the tafsīr of Ibn Abī Hātim:

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ مَالِكٍ السُّوسِيُّ السَّامِرِيُّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الْخَفَّافُ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ قَارُونَ ابْنَ عَمِّ مُوسَى أَخِي أَبِيهِ وَكَانَ قَطَعَ الْبَحْرَ مَعَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَكَانَ يُسَمَّى الْمُنَوَّرَ مِنْ حُسْنِ صَوْتِهِ بِالتَّوْرَاةِ، وَلَكِنَّ عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ نَافَقَ كَمَا نَافَقَ السَّامِرِيُّ فَأَهْلَكَهُ اللَّهُ لِبَغْيِهِ، وَإِنَّمَا بَغَى عَلَيْهِمْ لِكَثْرَةِ مَالِهِ وَوَلَدِهِ

Ahmad ibn Yahyā ibn Mālik As-Sūsī As-Sāmirī narrated to us (and said): ‘Abdul-Wahhāb Al-Khaffāf narrated to us, from Sa’īd, from Qatādah who said: “And Qārūn was the son of the uncle of Mūsā – the brother of his father – and he had passed the sea (when it was opened) with Banū Isrāīl. And he was called Al-Munawwar (the enlightened one) due to his beautiful voice (when reciting) the Tawrāh. But he was an enemy of Allāh. He was a hypocrite (i.e. showing īmān outside and hiding kufr inside), just like As-Sāmirī (who introduced the calf to Banū Isrāīl) was a hypocrite. So Allāh destroyed him due to his arrogance (and transgression). Open / Comment
