2024-01-18 08:04:02 The pie charts compare the proportions of men and women who were arrested between 2015 to 2020 while the bar graph describes the reasons for their apprehension.

Overall, it is clear that significantly more males were arrested than females within the given period, and the majority of those arrests were for public intoxication. Of particular note are arrests for drink driving, breaking and entering as well being drunk in public where a marked gender gap exists.

Regarding the arrest figures for males and females, the former accounted for roughly a third, which was more than three times as much as the latter (9%). The proportion of non-arrest females was, in turn, much higher than that of males with 91% and two-thirds respectively.

Turning to reasons why those UK males and females were arrested, by far the most common one for both genders was public intoxication, and interestingly, women outnumbered men (38% and 31%). Similarly, the share of women in the assault category was noticeably higher, with roughly a fifth compared to 15% for men. The proportions of males in other arrest groups was yet bigger. The proportions of males apprehended for drinking driving and breaking and entering outstripped those of females with a margin of 7%, with males’ figures amounting to about 22% and 18% respectively. The figures for theft and other offences were similar for both genders, where the former constituted over a tenth and the latter just under a fifth.

2024-01-16 08:01:01 It is often said that it is not necessary to have a tertiary education to become a successful businessman.

To what extent to you agree or disagree with this statement?

Some
people argue that one can become a successful entrepreneur without a university diploma. While there is some truth to this point of view, I reckon that university education is a prerequisite to success in business.

The idea of becoming a successful businessman without university qualifications can be justified on some grounds. People who share this view argue that university education does not teach one practical skills such as communication, which is crucial in the context of business. Since business involves constant exchange with people from various fields, people wishing to become a successful businessperson would be required to become an excellent communicator. Rarely do people develop skills such as this one in the confines of a classroom. It is also suggested that the university curriculum does not reflect the challenges of the business world. This is because university subjects are mostly theoretical and hardly prepare students to day-to-day management issues like event coordination and leadership, making university education less relevant to leading a business.

Notwithstanding, I deem tertiary education critical to running a successful business. This is primarily because university education equips one with specialized knowledge needed to have a well-rounded grasp of one’s area of business and make informed decisions. To have a thriving car manufacturing company like Elon Musk or any other successful automobile maker, one needs a degree in physics and engineering so that they make a good product. True, one can acquire this expertise through online sources without the need for university, but the university curriculum and assessment system are what ensure that this knowledge is properly learnt and measured. Moreover, university experience enables networking by allowing people to make connections with like-minded individuals. Being in a circle of people with similar ambitions and interests, in turn, makes for a stimulating environment and reliable support system, which aid in coping with the challenges of running a company.

In conclusion, while some shortcomings of university education cause people to downplay its importance in becoming a successful businessperson, I am of the opinion that it is instrumental in facilitating learning of technical knowledge and networking, without which businesses would fail.

2024-01-15 08:01:02 Some people say that technologies such as mobile phones are disrupting social interaction.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets are damaging social interaction. I personally share the same view.

Admittedly, communication technologies have improved our social interactions in some regards. Increased and swift connectivity they bring have meant that physical boundaries are no longer an obstacle, and people can reach each other in an instant on social media platforms such as Instagram and Telegram. As a result, people now have chances to interact with a great number of people effortlessly. They have also proved reliable for communication in times of emergencies such as global pandemics or natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis, which helps maintain correspondence regardless of the circumstances.

I, however, would contend that technology is undermining human social interactions. The primary reason has to do with their intrusive nature. Children checking their social media feed at dinner time or employees receiving constant phone calls and messages in a meeting have become a common scene. This often distracts people from being entirely present in social gatherings or public meetings, thus compromising the quality of their interactions. Not only has technology degraded human interactions, but it also has diminished their frequency. Since most people these days prefer online communication in the form of video calls or discussions on chat groups over face-to-face meetings, they are spending increasingly less time interacting in person. This, in turn, has taken its toll on their interpersonal skills, making them less adept at real-world interactions.

In conclusion, granted, technology has contributed positively to communication in some respects, but I am of the opinion that it hinders human interaction with its disruptive nature and apparent convenience.
