And it was said to Abū Bakr b. ʿAyāsh that a group from the people of Baġdād (ie: the Muʿtazilah) say: “(The Qurʾān) is makhlūq (ie: created).”
وَقِيلَ لِأَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ، إِنَّ قَوْمًا بِبَغْدَادَ يَقُولُونَ: إِنَّهُ مَخْلُوقٌ،

So he (Abū Bakr) said: “Woe to you! Who says this?” And he said: “Whoever says the Qurʾān is makhlūq, he is a heretic and disbeliever, do not sit with (such a person).”
فَقَالَ: " وَيْلَكَ مَنْ قَالَ هَذَا؟ عَلَى مَنْ قَالَ: الْقُرْآنُ مَخْلُوقٌ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ كَافِرٌ زِنْدِيقٌ، وَلَا تُجَالِسُوهُمْ ".
