Nigeria to Become First Country in Africa to Launch Central Bank Digital Currencies

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s eNaira website has gone live ahead of schedule. And, in the 24 hours following the launch, it received more than a million hits.

The CBN stated that eNaira – a central bank-issued digital currency that provides a unique form of money denominated in Naira – would serve as both a medium of exchange and a store of value, offering better payment prospects in retail transactions when compared to cash payments.

Andela is Finally a Unicorn, Now Expect Acquisitions

Andela, the talent epicenter of Africa’s tech revolution has raised $200 million from SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2, with the participation of Whale Rock, an American investment firm.

Generation Investment Management—the Al Gore firm that led a $100 million round in 2019—and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which first invested in 2016, also backed this Series E round that values Andela at $1.5 billion.

Startups like Decagon (Nigeria), Gebeya (Ethiopia), and Moringa School (Kenya) took up developer training after Andela exited that line of business in Africa. Are they on Acquisition radar?

Did You Know? The Highest and Lowest Point of Africa is Considered to be in Ethiopia

Both the highest lands of Africa and the lowest point of the continent situated below the surface of the earth are in Ethiopia.

The Simien Mountains, a National Park and UNESCO site, reach over 4,653m and are considered the roof of Africa.

The Danakil Depression is a surreal landscape rich in geothermal features. This area is well known by Erta Ale (one of the five volcanoes in the world with a lava lake at the summit), Dallol (a hydrothermal field located in a remote part of the northern Danakil Depression which is also the hottest place on earth with average annual temperatures well above 30 deg C), Tourism Ethiopia study indicated.

Ethiopia Landscapes/ Natural Scenery offers limitless possibilities to Tourism business.
