KEFI, an exploration and development company focused on gold and copper deposits with projects in Ethiopia, has announced that security concerns have started to show, during preparations for the expected October 2021 launch of the development phase of the Company’s Tulu Kapi Gold project.

All stakeholders have been notified and the company will make further announcements as suitable, and is optimistic that the launch can still take before the end of 2021, but there are no guarantees.

In January 2018, Israeli seed company Hazera Seeds Ltd. launched its hybrid tomato seed “Shanty” in Ethiopia.

In Africa, the company’s hybrid seed marketing is focused on onions (Neptune and Russet being the leading varieties) and tomatoes (Shanty and Galilea), with watermelons, cabbages and peppers reportedly in the pipeline.

The global tomato seeds market is projected to reach US$ 1,798.6 million by 2027, at a CAGR of 6.5% over the forecast period by Coherent Market Insights, owing to increasing consumer awareness regarding health benefits of tomato seeds.

Ethiopian coffee is becoming increasingly famous in the Chinese market under the African product category. The China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) is also an enabling factor for this as the Chinese can now source coffee beans directly from Ethiopia, which was previously done through intermediaries in the market. This allows costs to decrease by about 30%.

China is also one of the top coffee importers from Ethiopia. In July, coffee export in Ethiopia was more than $115.46 million, and China was one of the top ten buyers.

• The consortium is made up of acknowledged experts in the supply and operation of a telephone service and beat another applicant (MTN Grp) which was not successful.
• The trading name for the new venture is Safaricom Telecommunications and is registered in the Netherlands.
• Vodacom’s commitment to fund the Ethiopia opco is limited to its pro rata beneficial shareholding of 6.2 per cent, which is not expected to be material.
• Safaricom, as the lead member of the consortium, intends to provide additional disclosure on the funding of the Ethiopia opco in the coming months.
• Vodacom will also provide strategic operational support for the Ethiopia opco.

2021-09-29 12:29:31 MoWIE Launched a New Agricultural Productive Use Project Called DREAM

In Partnership with The Rockefeller Foundation, African Development Bank and the Agricultural Transformation Energy, The Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy (MoWIE) has launched a new agricultural productive use focused project named Decentralized Renewable Energy-Agriculture Modalities (DREAM).

The DREAM project is expected to transform household farmer-based Agricultural Commercial Clusters (ACCs) by providing reliable and affordable solar mini-grid power to enable large-scale irrigation farming throughout the year.

Compared to current diesel generator-based irrigation solutions, on average the DREAM pilot project is expected to substantially increase farmer productivity by 91%, farm production by 86%, and farmer income by 80%.

Ethiopia has a great gold reserve and, in the recent years, has been a great producer of opal, sapphire, and emerald. Other resources including tantalum, phosphorus, iron, salt, potash, soda ash, coal, geothermal and natural gas have recently been discovered in Ethiopia.

Demeke Atnafu Ambulo, Consul General of Ethiopia in Mumbai, shared his views regarding opportunities for Indian companies, some of which includes:

2021-09-29 11:36:14 U.N. Tenders for 200,000 Tonnes Wheat for Ethiopia

A United Nations agency has issued an international tender to purchase about 200,000 tonnes of milling wheat on behalf of the Ethiopian government, European traders said on Monday to Reuters.

In its last wheat tender reported on Aug. 3, the Ethiopian government is believed to have cancelled a tender to buy 400,000 tonnes.

The deadline for submission of price offers in the tender is Oct. 8.
