These special public policies will grant permanent status to temporary workers and international graduates who are already in Canada and who possess the relevant skills and experience.

To be eligible, workers must have at least one year of Canadian work experience in a healthcare profession or another pre-approved essential occupation. International graduates must have completed an eligible Canadian post-secondary program within the last four years and no earlier than January 2017.

Effective May 6, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin accepting applications under the following three streams:

* 20,000 applications for temporary workers in health care
* 30,000 applications for temporary workers in other selected essential occupations
* 40,000 applications for international students who graduated from a Canadian institution

In addition to the above three streams – To promote Canada’s official languages, three additional streams with no intake caps have also been launched for French-speaking or bilingual candidates. Communities across Canada benefit from French-speaking and bilingual newcomers, and this pathway will contribute to the vitality of these Francophone minority communities.

The streams will remain open until November 5, 2021, or they have reached their limit. Up to 90,000 new permanent residents will be admitted under these three streams.
Graduates and workers must have proficiency in either English or French and must meet general admissibility requirements; and be present, authorized to work, and working in Canada at the time of their application to qualify. They also must intend to reside in any Canadian province other than Quebec.

These airports are – Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary

The list of the hotels has been published and can be found here.

This requirement of mandatory hotel quarantine applies to all arriving travelers, with exception of very few categories of people. This exemption list can be found here.

Save you the trouble of looking through the exemption list, let me clarify and tell you that this mandatory quarantine is applicable to

* most returning citizens and permanent residents from their trips abroad,
* all newly arriving immigrants,
* all international students,
* most workers (very few categories are exempted)

The cost of this hotel quarantine has to be borne by the traveler and must be booked and paid for before arriving in Canada. The purpose is for you to isolate yourself under the supervision of health authorities while awaiting the COVID test that will be done on arrival.

If the results are negative, you will be allowed to proceed to your onward destination or your home and complete the remainder of the 14-day quarantine.

If the test results are positive, then you will be moved to a federally designated institution for further observation or quarantine.

However, there are a few formalities that you are required to complete as you’re moving to Canada for the first time as a Permanent Resident (PR). In this article we will be addressing the forms BSF186 & BSF186A; these forms are popularly known as B4 &B4A respectively.

When you first arrive in Canada there are certain documents that are crucial to your entry. They are your passport, PR Visa & Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR). The forms B4 & B4A are equally essential to your entry into Canada. However, it is not mandatory to fill these forms before you arrive but it surely will save you time after you land in Canada.

What are forms B4 & B4A?

Forms B4 & B4A are meant to be an account of all personal belongings; also known as a settler’s effect list. Any individual who is moving or returning to Canada with the intention of permanently living in Canada as a Permanent resident is required to fill out these forms and present them at the first port of entry to a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer.

Form BSF186 (B4): This form is used to keep track of items that you are bringing with you at the time of entry. Any items you owned in your house prior to moving and you intend to carry them should be listed on this form. The purpose of this list is to assist the border officer in determining if you are required to pay duty tax on any of the items you are carrying. You are required to fill out this form even if you do not have any items with you.

CBSA has a list of items that are permitted and restricted, and you can find that list to be pretty exhaustive as it covers everything.

Form BSF186A (B4A): This form is basically a good-to-follow list. This list helps in tracking all your items/goods that will be arriving in Canada with you or after you. This form is important as any of the items that you are getting shipped will not have any duty tax on them. First announced in late October last year, Alberta has finally announced the details of its Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream (FGSVS).

This new immigration pathway stream, launched by Alberta, is meant to attract international graduates to start businesses in this province and assist in the recovery of its beaten-up economy. Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream (FGSVS) is the second of two programs announced on Oct. 26 and targets international graduates. The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream was launched in late October and targeted the graduates inside Canada.

This new program launched last week is an economic immigration program for qualified foreign-educated graduates from outside of Canada who want to launch startup enterprises and innovative businesses in Alberta.

This startup visa program is launched in partnership with two designated agencies, Vancouver-based Empowered Startups and Calgary’s Platform Calgary.

Eligible candidates for the Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream (FGSVS) must have graduated outside of Canada within the last two years with at least a Canadian equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree.

Candidates must also have:

* A minimum of six months of full-time work experience in business ownership/management or business incubator/accelerator
* A business plan with financial forecasts and a 10-minute business proposal presentation will be required
* Language proficiency of CLB level of 7 is minimum for each skill in English or French.
* The candidates must have the ability to demonstrate 34% ownership (if the business is located in an urban area), or 51% ownership (if the company is located in regional areas outside Calgary and Edmonton).
* Minimum investment from their equity, along with investment from a recognized financial institution, venture capital, or angel investor in Canada, is also required.
