I still remember how many people criticised authorities in Singapore pointing first to Hong Kong, then to Taiwan and New Zealand as allegedly better examples for how to handle Covid.
Well, today Hong Kong's death rates are 5x that of Singapore and both Taiwan and New Zealand have surged past the city state.
Taiwan, once a role model, is now burying 150 people every single day, despite having a population of little over 4 times of Singapore.
In my past coverage of Covid I repeatedly stated that isolation is not the answer and all those countries which have managed to keep the world away will have to reopen one day and face the virus.
And only then we would know how good they really are.
Turns out that Singapore has timed all of its moves very well. It locked down for as long as was necessary and reopened when most people enjoyed strong vaccine-induced immune response.
Meanwhile, as the virus is circulating, it actually helps to retain high levels of immunity.
Those who have waited for too long or haven't vaccinated well-enough are now paying the price.
