The migrant worker complaining that dorms are work camps and MWs are work slaves in Singapore is free to go home. Why isn't he celebrating?

When historians look back at the first 60 years of Singapore's independent existence, ranking the most influential figures who have contributed to the country's prosperity and security, Dr Tun Mahathir Mohamad will surely rank up there next to his contemporary, the founding father, Lee Kuan Yew: https://www.facebook.com/CriticalSpectator/posts/pfbid02W3XpUDWV9dMpNWgELBDLiE48FpM4zxVKL4TtDwqM54deebyazrM6AsMR5aTgKLpYl

I have to say I have a problem with this Ipsos survey. They did it on a sample of 500 people online. And it includes PRs too. I tried finding any document summarizing the study but there's nothing. I wrote to them to request more information, will let you know what they say.

2022-06-14 05:37:54 I've been writing rather positively about the job market in Singapore this year but now it's time for a cautionary tale, as not everyone is doing equally well.

Some companies - including those which made headlines in the past 2 years - have either frozen hiring or announced layoffs to cut expenses.

We're going through a post-pandemic readjustment, with the companies which benefited from lockdowns that kept us all glued to screens and internet now forced to optimize their spending, as their growth may have slowed and easy money dried up.

According to a layoffs tracker 17,000 people working for 71 startups around the world lost their jobs in May - which was by far the worst result since mid-2020. And June is shaping up to be equally bad.

But even more established businesses are letting staff go - including Shopee and Singapore-based giant Crypto.com.

2022-06-13 05:56:19 Many people have lamented that Singapore's stringent crypto regulation is strangling innovation but what MAS is really doing is showing the way forward.

Binance may have opted to settle in UAE instead of Singapore but when it needed a partner payment gateway for crypto it reached out to a MAS-licensed Singaporean startup - and I'm convinced that regulation (and reputation) have played their part in this choice.
