Yes, there is something in space called The Great Attractor!
It was discovered in the 1970s.
The view of The Great Attractor is obscured by our own Milky Way's galactic plane. It would take 100 million years for the milky way to rotate and give us a view.
As the name suggests, The Great Attractor is attracting.
It could be 250 million light-years away.
Observations of galaxies reveal that they are slightly drawn toward this anomaly based on variations in their redshifts.
As x-ray astronomy became more powerful, scientists could start to see through the Milky Way. There are two galaxy clusters, the Norma Cluster and Shapley Supercluster which could also be tugging on local galaxies.
So as we hurtle through the cosmos, the Great Attractor, despite its glorious title, could in fact be a perfectly normal collection of galaxies, which just happens to be hidden from us.
