Virgin Galactic's spaceplane has reached the edge of space for the first time.

The peculiarity of the spaceplane is that it is lifted into the sky by a carrier aircraft and separated at an altitude of 14 km. Such a spaceship was created mainly for tourists. The cost of a two-hour flight, during which passengers will be able to experience weightlessness and see the Earth from a height of 100 km, is about $ 250 thousand.

The Juno spacecraft was discovered on Jupiter.. Delphine! Or rather, a spot in the shape of a dolphin.

Very accurate and correct simulation of galaxy collision

According to some simulations, in 4.5 billion years the Milky Way may collide with the Andromeda galaxy, merging into one even larger galaxy

The video shows HD 131399 Ab – an exoplanet with three suns

The parent star of this place is HD 131399 A, part of the triple star system HD 131399. The other two stars HD 131399 B and HD 131399 C revolve around a common center of mass and together around the star HD 131399 A.

One year on HD 131399 Ab is equal to 550 Earth years. For 100-140 years, all three suns are visible all day, so the planet is fully illuminated at this time. There are also double sunrises and sunsets, when a single sun sets, two rise or vice versa.

Life on it is unlikely due to the absence of a solid surface, liquid water and the presence of strong winds, as well as periodic rains of liquid iron in the upper atmosphere.

Did you know that the Pillars of Creation nebula has a second name: Pillars of Destruction?

The Pillars of Creation nebula got its name due to the fact that the gas and dust it consists of are involved in the formation of new stars.

On the other hand, this nebula, like many others, is not eternal. About 10% of its total mass will sooner or later become new "suns".

The remaining 90% will be destroyed by heated clouds or scattered through space by the solar wind of the formed stars. So its second name appeared – "Pillars of Destruction".

Three things about earth quakes you may or may not know.

Natural disasters are many more times powerful than man made disasters. A single earthquake, volcanic eruption or a tsunami can devastate large area. Being said that we are close to crossing the barrier where human made disasters can result in natural disasters. Examples being climate change, deforestation and pollution etc...

Pluto lost its planetary status over a decade ago. And it's because it missed one of the three criteria defined by the IAU:

1. It needs to orbit the sun: Pluto passed this one.

2. It has to have sufficient mass to assume a nearly round shape (hydrostatic equilibrium). Passed

3. It has to have “cleared the neighborhood” around its orbit. Failed

Pluto failed on that one because there are still several large objects in that distant outer orbit range called the Kuiper belt, including Eris, another dwarf planet even more massive than Pluto, although Pluto is slightly larger in size.

Pluto is still the 9th largest object directly orbiting the Sun, maybe one day it will regain its status.

Some solar flares can cause so-called "sunshakes"

This animation shows a similar event recorded by the SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) spacecraft in 1998. A seismic wave resembles waves on water that occur when a stone is thrown.

Dawn over the Amazon

A flash of light running along the river is a reflection of sunlight from the water. In accelerated playback, the glare creates an effect similar to lightning.
