کاربردHardly , Scarcely , No sooner

این سه عبارت را میتوانیم برای بیان این معنا که کاری به سرعت بعد از کار دیگر رخ داده است، به کار ببریم معمولا آن ها را با گذشته کامل به کار می بریم

… hardly … when / before …
… scarcely … when / before… … no sooner … than

همانطور که مشاهده میکنید، "Hardly" و "scarcely" همراه با "when" یا " before" به کار می روند اما "no sooner" با "than" به کار میرود.

I had hardly closed my eyes when the telephone rang. (Or: I had scarcely …)
هنوز چشم هایم را نبسته بودم که تلفن زنگ زد.

I had no sooner closed the door than somebody started knocking on it.
هنوز در را نبسته بودم که کسی در زد.

در سبک رسمی یا ادبی معمولا این ساختار را با نظم واژگانی جا به جا شده به کار می بریم

Hardly had I closed my eyes when I began to imagine the most fantastic shapes.
هنوز چشمانم را نبسته بودم که در رویای شگرف ترین تصویرها فرو رفتم.

No sooner had she sat down than the phone rang.
به محض این که نشست تلفن زنگ زد.

Scarcely had we started lunch when the door bell rang.
ما هنوز ناهارمان را شروع نکرده بودیم که زنگ در به صدا در آمد.

کاربرد کلمه "uncle"

حتما می دانید کلمه" uncle" هم به معنی عمو هست و هم به معنی دایی. حالا اگر بخواهیم از این کلمه برای بیان معنی عمو استفاده کنیم چطور می توانیم آن را بکار ببریم؟

اگر بخواهیم در خصوص کلمه "uncle" معنی عمو را بیان کنیم می توانیم از on (my, your, his…) father’s side بعد از آن استفاده کنیم،

I have two uncles on my father’s side.
من دو تا عمو دارم.

حالا اگر بخواهیم در جمله بالا به جای عمو از معنی دیگر کلمه "uncle" که "دایی" است استفاده کنیم به جای کلمه "father" از کلمه "mother" استفاده میکنیم:

I have two uncles on my mother’s side.
من دو تا دایی دارم.

کلمه "aunt" در کنار معنی دیگر هم به معنی عمه هست و هم به معنی خاله، از این کلمه هم به همین شکل استفاده می شود.

Here are three discourse markers which are common in spoken language:

Use: I'm going to give you some information you already know.
You know, I was organizing an amazing dinner party last night.

2. actually
Use: I'm going to give you some surprising information or I'm going to correct some information.
