ʿAbd Al-Razzāq: Maʿmar informed us: From al-Zuhrī, who said: Tha'labah b. Abī Mālik al-Quradhī informed me, saying: “ʿUmar used to arrive and sit on the Minbar, while the muʿaḏḏin was calling the Aḏān, while we were all conversing with one another. So if the muʿaḏḏin completed calling the Aḏān, we would stop speaking.”

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي ثَعْلَبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْقُرَظِيُّ قَالَ: قَدْ كَانَ عُمَرُ «يَجِيءُ فَيَجْلِسُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، وَالْمُؤَذِّنُ يُؤَذِّنُ، وَنَحْنُ نَتَحَدَّثُ، فَإِذَا قَضَى الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَذَانَهُ انْقَطَعَ حَدِيثُنَا»
