ʿAbd Allah (Ibn al-Mubārak) said: “If the good qualities of a person outweigh his bad qualities, then his bad qualities are not mentioned. وقال عَبَدان بن عثمان: قال عبد الله: إذا غلبت محاسن الرجال على مساوئه لم تُذكر المساوئ،
And if his bad qualities outweigh his good qualities, then his good qualities are not mentioned.” وإذا غلبت المساوئ على المَحاسن لم تُذكر المحاسن.
