Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥātim said: A man came to Abū ʿAbd Allah (Imām | IlmTest

Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥātim said: A man came to Abū ʿAbd Allah (Imām) al-Bukhārī and said: “O Abū ʿAbd Allah! So and so declares you to be a disbeliever!”
وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ: أَتَى رَجُلٌ عَبْدَ اللهِ البُخَارِيَّ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ، إِنَّ فُلاَناً يُكَفِّرُكَ!

So he (ie: al-Bukhārī) replied: The Prophet ﷺ said: “When a man says to his brother: 'O disbeliever!' then it will have settled upon one of them.”
فَقَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ -صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ-: (إِذَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ لأَخِيْهِ: يَا كَافِرُ، فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِهِ أَحَدُهُمَا).

And many of his companions would say to him: “Some of the people are slandering you.”
وَكَانَ كَثِيْرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَقُوْلُوْنَ لَهُ: إِنَّ بَعْضَ النَّاسِ يَقَعُ فيكَ.

So he would reply: {Indeed the plot of Shayṭān has ever been weak} [4:76]
فَيَقُوْلُ: {إِنَّ كَيْدَ الشَّيْطَانِ كَانَ ضَعِيْفاً} [النِّسَاء 76]
