Y’all help me out.
The last couple years I have been not super interested in (Christian / traditional) holidays.
First they feel forced on our society and the way we celebrate them couldn’t be further from their true origins.
- Valentine’s Day A candy buying holiday excuse. And why do we HAVE to show our love on this day ? What about other days. Scam.
- St. Patrick’s Day I don’t even understand why Americans are celebrating this and pretending they are Irish. (11 months of the year you were not Irish) And you get pinched if you don’t wear green? Why?
- Easter Eggs and Rabbits is confusing. Candy (the kind I don’t let my kids eat) filled, dress up for church holiday. Jesus rose from the dead / no body / empty tomb. I don’t know why we are doing Easter egg hunts with a rabbit.
- Independence Day We are free from the Brits, are we free from tyranny ?
- Halloween back in my day this was innocent and fun. Today? These kids have the most gory costumes and they all look like tiny serial killers running around the streets. Also, the candy again? Why are we giving our kids so much candy??
- Thanksgiving Is this about family? Or pilgrims and Indians? What’s the real back story there? Pretty sure this has been white washed.
- Christmas with Santa doesn’t even make any sense at all and I literally don’t understand the point in lying to my kids. I work my butt off. I’m not giving Santa the credit lol. Also, Christmas with Jesus is also strange to me. Jesus was not born December 25th nor was he a white Christian. Lol Something doesn’t add up there, again- don’t want to lie to my kids.
Is it just me or are these holidays weird asf? I think I am going to invent my own holidays. My older kids thinks it’s wrong if I don’t celebrate them with the younger babies but honestly, this ritual just doesn’t make sense to me anymore.
What are your thoughts ? Am I a party pooper ? Or have we all been brainwashed to stimulate the economy?
