When you feel something, it is a WHOLE body experience no matter where the emotion originates.
There are different theories out there that explain emotions from a physiological standpoint (look up James-Lange Theory of emotion to learn more).
According to their theory, our emotions happen to us physically and then, we cognitively interpret them.
Here are some key points:
⁃ Putting language to how we feel gives us control and self-understanding. It also helps us communicate to others how we are feeling.
⁃ Noticing how emotions live in our body specifically can only help this process!
⁃ In this image, the blue is described as a disengagement (think heavy and/or lethargic), and the red/orange is meant to insinuate engagement (think light, jumpy, energy).
Which resonates with you today?
