The Chennakesava Temple is a Vaishnava Hindu temple on the banks of River Kaveri at Somanathapura, Karnataka. The temple was consecrated in 1258 CE by Somanatha Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala King Narasimha III. The ornate temple is a model illustration of the Hoysala architecture. The temple is enclosed in a courtyard with a pillared corridor of small shrines (damaged). The main temple in the center is on a high star-shaped platform with three symmetrical sanctums (garbha-griha), set in a square matrix (89' x 89') oriented along the east–west and north–south axes. The western sanctum was for a statue of Kesava (missing), the northern sanctum of Janardhana and the southern sanctum of Venugopala, all forms of Vishnu.

The Hoysaleswara temple, dating back to the 1121 C.E., is astounding for its wealth of sculptural details. The walls of the temple are covered with an endless variety of depictions from Hinduism, animals, birds and Shilabalikas or dancing figures. Yet no two sculptures of the temple are the same. This magnificent temple guarded by a Nandi Bull was never completed, despite 86 years of labour.

The Jain basadi nearby are equally rich in sculptural detail. Belur and Halebid are 222 and 216 km from Bangalore, respectively. This temple is now being proposed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Halebidu is located in Hassan District, Karnataka, India.

Cave 1 at Badami is dedicated to Shiva, yet reverentially displays themes and ideas of Vaishnavism and Shaktism. Further, the cave also presents the Hindu equivalence and interdependence concepts of Harihara (fused equal Shiva-Vishnu) and Ardhanarishvara (fused equal masculine-feminine).

The Badami region is home to numerous medieval era Hindu and Jain temples and monuments.

Located approximately 46 kms from Bhopal, Sanchi is one of the oldest pilgrimage points in India with many age-old stupas, temples, monasteries and other remnants of Buddhist monuments which are probably the best preserved group of Buddhist monuments in India at present and it's also designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The oldest and also the largest monument (the one in the picture), is the Great Stupa/ Maha Stupa also called Stupa No.1, originally commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in 3rd Century BCE.This is one of the oldest stone structures in India. The stupas are hemispherical structures typically containing relics of the Buddha or of his followers. These were constructed on the orders of Emperor Ashoka to preserve and spread the Buddhist philosophy.
