I sailed to South America under the command of Alonso de Ojeda in 1502, when much was said in Spain about the existence of fabulously rich regions in the New World.

I'm mentioned in 1509, when "Governor Ojeda established a settlement of Christians in a place called San Sebastian de Uraba, where he made me his captain and representative, who afterwards became governor and marquis.

In that town or city I experienced much with the Indians, both hunger and disease."

Governor Columbus had planned the conquest of Cuba in 1510, with Don Diego Velasquez de Cuellar, who had first arrived in the New World in 1493 in the expedition of Bartholomew Columbus, brother of the discoverer, at the head of the campaign.

I managed to get a position as official treasurer of Velázquez's army, which numbered about 300 men.

I quickly established myself as a competent professional and as soon as the manager of Hewitt & Tuttle left his post I was appointed to his position.

My salary was set at $600, whereas my predecessor's was $2,000.

After the death of my wife Florence Frances May Crotty in 1944, I established the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, to which I bequeathed all my shares in Rolex, thus making sure that the company's profits would go to charity.

I founded another quality but less expensive watch brand, Tudor, in addition to Rolex in 1946.

I founded the world's first engine company with Eugen Langen on 31 March 1864 — "N. A. Otto & Cie".

In 1872 Gottlieb Daimler joins the company as technical manager of a four-stroke engine plant and Wilhelm Maybach as chief engineer half a year later.

I was able to realise my idea of a four-stroke engine in 1876 and received a patent for it.

In 1906, on the basis of his experimental research, Nernst assumed that the entropy of a pure crystalline substance at absolute zero temperature tends to a constant value, independent of phase, pressure and other parameters.

The statement was called the third principle of thermodynamics, or Nernst's theorem.

I suggested that at absolute zero the entropy of any homogeneous condensed matter turns to zero in 1911.
