Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the fifth anniversary of the Salisbury incident

It is now five years since the incident in Salisbury, which the UK authorities deliberately used to complicate UK-Russia bilateral relations.

In this connection, we would like to remind everyone once again that despite Russia’s numerous appeals and calls for a responsible dialogue, London is still refusing to engage in a detailed discussion and joint investigation of this event, in which Russian citizens were harmed.

We insist on a professional, objective and unbiased investigation of the incident. We intend to continue our consistent efforts to uncover the truth in the face of the obvious inconsistencies in the UK’s position.

On March 2, Ukrainian saboteurs committed an outrageous terrorist attack in two border villages in the Bryansk Region of Russia. We strongly condemn the act. The terrorists penetrated Russian territory, killed two civilians, and seriously wounded an 11-year-old boy.

Ukrainian officials have repeatedly acknowledged that all their actions are carried out with the approval and support of the United States and other NATO countries. The killings in the Bryansk Region were committed with NATO weapons. This raises a legitimate question about classifying those states as accomplices to such crimes and as sponsors of terrorism.

Russian investigative bodies have opened an investigation. This crime will not go unpunished.

February 26 marked nine years since the beginning of the Crimean Spring, which culminated in a referendum and the subsequent reunification of Crimea with Russia.

The starting point of these historical events was the anti-constitutional armed coup in Kiev orchestrated by the West. Its driving force was radical nationalists, who never hid their aggressive anti-Russia attitudes.

In the referendum held on March 16, 2014, the people of Crimea voted almost unanimously for its return to its native harbour. The question of Russian sovereignty over the peninsula was settled once and for all.

Today, the Kiev regime continues to plan a military seizure of Crimea and strikes against it, obviously unconcerned about the lives of the Russian civilians.

Against the backdrop of the Ukrainian leadership’s aggressive statements regarding Crimea, the media reports that Kiev authorities would like to present Russian and Belarusian citizens in Ukraine with the following choice: either join the Armed Forces of Ukraine and fight, or be deported. Obviously, this issue would have arisen sooner or later. We believe that sober-minded Russians and Belarusians in Ukraine also realised this.

We are ready to accommodate all victims of the Kiev regime in Russia.

2023-03-06 09:15:12 Watch the Embassy video "Salisbury incident - 5 years later"

The situation has hardly changed since the Skripal poisoning. There is no new information or at least some element which would have clarified the situation.

Maybe at some point we will find out.

However, our requests, apart from purely formal replies, remain unanswered by the British authorities.

The UK groundlessly accuses Russia of using chemical nerve agent against Sergei and Yulia Skripal. However, in 2017, OPCW certified full destruction of Russia’s chemical weapons.

Former Porton Down Chief Executive Gary Aitkenhead did not deny producing Novichok at the facility.

How could the British side in such remarkably short period of time identify the type of the substance used?

Had the British side possess a standard sample against which to test the substance? Where had that sample come from?

On the basis of which characteristics ("markers") has it been ascertained that the substance used in Salisbury “originated from Russia”?

How can the delayed action of the nerve agent be explained, given that it is a fast-acting substance by nature?

How was it possible for Sergei and Yulia Skripal to lose consciousness simultaneously several hours after coming into contact with the nerve agent, despite them being of different age, gender and body constitution.

Why have Sergei and Yulia Skripal’s mobile phones been switched off for 4 hours on 4 March? Where were they during this period?

How did it occur that first aid to Sergei and Yulia Skripal was "by a coincidence" provided by a senior British Army CBRN officer?

How come not a single person providing first aid and further medical assistance to Skripals ever developed any signs/symptoms of nerve agent poisoning?

What is Sergei and Yulia Skripal's health condition and why has Russia been denied consular access to the two Russian nationals that have become crime victims on the British territory?

2023-03-06 01:05:22 I hope that the forthcoming session of the IAEA Board of Governors will refrain from unjustifiable politication of the Iranian file and will demonstrate a responsible approach to this issue

The attempts to arrange heated debates on this topic, including 84% enrichment, failed

On March 5, 1970 an important multilateral international act entered into force - the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)

On this day, the depositary states (the USSR, the USA and the UK), as well as 40 other countries, deposited their instruments of ratification

The Treaty is the cornerstone of global efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons and to promote cooperation of peaceful uses of nuclear energy

2023-03-04 21:00:32 Ambassador Andrei Kelin’s interview to Timur Siraziev on Channel One Russia, 4 March, 2023

The situation has hardly changed since the Skripal poisoning. There is no new information or at least some element which would have clarified the situation.

The political context has changed. Previously it had been the main irritant which paved way for the UK to start destroying the bilateral relations. Now there are several such factors, such irritants, which are being intertwined in the general anti-Russian policy aimed at weakening our country.

The whole situation started to change after the return of Crimea to Russia. However, it was indeed one of the first bricks of the information and psychological manipulation by the UK of its allies in order to bring them to a broader confrontational course against Russia, which has now turned into a military-political confrontation, which we can see today in Ukraine.

I consider what has happened to the Skripals to be a well-planned and well-orchestrated intentional provocation. It cannot be otherwise, as the British side has instantly refused any interaction offered by the Russian side. This tells us that this was purely a provocation.

The same conclusion can be drawn from the reaction of the British establishment, parliamentarians who, without waiting for any proof or results of at least attempts to investigate the case, started to make statements with “highly likely” accusations against Russia. Neither did they later try to get to the bottom of what has happened. It was basically stating that this and that happened and that Russia is to blame.

We have been forwarding request on a regular basis. Their total has now reached 65, with most recent ones forwarded several months ago.

There will be another one this upcoming anniversary. After all, the Skripals are Russian citizens and we need to know where they are, what is happening to them.

Maybe at some point we will find out. However, our requests, apart from purely formal replies, remain unanswered by the British authorities.

Embassy comment of the fifth anniversary of the Salisbury incident

On 4 March 2023 five years will have passed since the notorious incident involving the alleged “poisoning” of Russian citizens Sergei and Yulia Skripal.

Throughout these years the British authorities have failed to establish the actual circumstances of what happened in Salisbury.

We now realise that from the very outset London never had any interest in establishing the truth.

The Salisbury chemical incident was deliberately fabricated in order to start preparing the UK population and allies for a showdown with Russia, which has now assumed military-political characteristics in Ukraine.

Regrettably, we remain unaware about the fate of our two citizens who have gone missing on UK soil.

Nevertheless we will persist in pursuing answers from the UK to all our completely legitimate and well-founded questions.

Embassy comment regarding Sky News investigation on the rise of Russophobia in the UK

The results of the Sky News journalist investigation of cases of persecution and harassment of Russian-speaking citizens in the UK require the most undivided attention.

Among the most flagrant criminal actions documented by the British law-enforcement officials were battery, death threats, serious health impairment, vandalism and property damage and telephone terrorism.

We should also add to this list the requirement for businesses to cancel all ties with Russia, bans against Russian sportsmen and artists, as well as restrictions against the Russian Orthodox Church in the UK.

We consider such events a shameful page in modern UK history.

British Russophobia is nothing but racism.

We demand London to immediately stop the indiscriminate anti-Russian and Russophobic propaganda.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answers to questions during the Raisina Dialogue conference

New Delhi, March 3, 2023

Read in full

Right after the coup that brought to power this neo-Nazi regime, the Ukrainian legislation banned everything that had to do with the Russian language.

Russian language was totally cancelled in Ukraine. We have been knocking on all these doors: the OSCE, the Council of Europe: Why don’t you say something?

Russia is interested in these two great nations [China and India] to be friends. And we are trying to be helpful.

The developing countries were basically silent until the West started blackmailing them, threatening them, sanctioning those who would not sanction Russia. Many friends of mine in the developing world are telling me how this is being done.
