2022-05-27 11:57:18 Commentary: Coil Packing Density – Not Just for Cerebral Aneurysms
https://www.jvir.org/article/S1051-0443(22)00113-0/fulltext?rss=yes

Coil packing density (CPD) has been recognized as a factor related to coil compaction or recanalization in the treatment of visceral and intracranial aneurysms (1,2). Simple coiling (SC), balloon remodeling (BR), and stent-assisted coiling are 3 commonly used techniques for percutaneously treating aneurysms. In the article by Kesim et al (3) titled “Effects of the Aneurysm Treatment Method on Coil Packing Density and Its Relationship with the Ostium Area,” the authors demonstrated that it is possible to achieve similar CPDs using these 3 coiling techniques while treating intracranial aneurysms and concluded that “in cerebral aneurysms treated with balloon- or stent-assisted coiling, the CPD value does not differ from that in aneurysms treated with simple coiling.” The authors noted that coiling technique is influenced by aneurysm neck size, with BR and stent-assisted coiling used for aneurysms with unfavorable neck morphology.

2022-05-27 11:55:17 Angiographic Revascularization after Bariatric Embolization in a Swine Model
https://www.jvir.org/article/S1051-0443(22)00108-7/fulltext?rss=yes

This study evaluated fundal arteriole angiographic revascularization after embolization with embolic microspheres of 3 different diameters in a swine model (16 swine, 31 arterioles). In the 50-μm group, 7 of 11 (64%) arterioles recanalized completely, 3 of 11 (27%) arterioles recanalized partially, and 1 of 11 (9%) arterioles had collateralization (no recanalization). In the 100- to 300-μm group, 7 of 10 (70%) arterioles recanalized completely and 3 of 10 (30%) arterioles) recanalized partially.

2022-05-27 11:53:17 Safety of High-Dose 3% Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate for Sclerotherapy of Renal Cysts in Patients with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease
https://www.jvir.org/article/S1051-0443(22)00107-5/fulltext?rss=yes

This study assessed the safety profile of high-volume (>10 mL) 3% sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS) sclerotherapy for the treatment of renal cysts in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. A total of 211 sclerotherapy treatments were performed in 169 patients over a 5-year period, with a comparison of 2 patient cohorts based on the STS volumes used. The first cohort (n = 112) received a high volume (greater than 10 mL) of STS, and the second cohort (n = 57) received a low volume (less than 10 mL).
