People often ask me if I’m afraid - maybe afraid of having a name out there, or retribution of some sort, or of being wrong.
And the truth is, I am afraid. I’m afraid only that people of strong character are going to choose to sit on the sidelines in a fight for all we value, and remain silent for fear of losing status, comfort, or membership.
Here is another great dad story, having to do with fear. On 9/11, I was almost 17. For the first time, I became terrified, gripped with fear of dying unexpectedly.
I had been selected to attend a youth leadership conference in Washington, DC that November. After the attacks I was hesitant to go.
Without delay - my dad: “I didn’t serve three (bleeping) tours in Vietnam for my son to be afraid of a bunch of Stone Age, camel herding savages.”
Guess who got on the plane?
Fear problem : gone. Use freedom wisely.
