СТАРЫЙ КОНЬ БОРОЗДЫ НЕ ИСПОРТИТ Literal definition: the old horse won’t spoil the furrows
Meaning: refers to someone experienced, who knows exactly what needs to be done and just can't get it wrong. The origin of the proverb is related to ploughing: first, plough a furrow had to be ploughed - only young and strong animals were involved. More experienced horses were engaged in covering the grain with soil. This had to be done carefully without damaging the furrows. Not surprisingly that there was a forgotten part of the proverb: "an old horse won't spoil a furrow, but he won't plough a new one either", which changed the meaning of the expression in a slight way.
Usage example:
Я думаю, эту работу стоит поручить Илье Муровичу. Старый конь борозды не испортит.
I think this work should be entrusted to Ilya Murovich. An old ox makes a straight furrow.
