Literal definition: like spiders in a jar
Meaning: about mutual intolerance, the inability to coexist in the same space. The expression emerged from Darwin's experiments. While working on his theory of evolution he conducted various tests, including some that involved spiders. One of the trials was based on placing several of them in one jar. After a short period of time the spiders began to eat each other until there was only one left. This proved the principle that the strongest survive.
