Egypt’s highest civilian court on Monday upheld death sentences for 12 Muslim Brotherhood members, concluding a trial linked to a 2013 mass killing by security forces at a sit-in, according to judicial sources.

The ruling, which cannot be appealed against, means the 12 men could face execution pending approval by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. They include Abdul Rahman Al-Bar, commonly described as the group’s mufti or top religious scholar, Mohamed El-Beltagi, a former member of parliament, and Osama Yassin, a former minister.

Over the past week, the U.S. government has been looking over a letter of a reported leak at the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in southern China that was sent by a French company that owns part of and helps run the plant. The warnings allegedly mentioned an "imminent radiological threat," as the report sent by Framatome, the French company, stated.

According to the CNN report, Framatome sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Energy explaining that the Chinese safety authority was raising the acceptable limits of radiation detection outside the nuclear power plant based in Guangdong province. It allegedly did so to stop the plant from having to shut down. So far, the U.S. has allegedly stated that the facility is not yet at a "crisis level," per the report.

On Monday, four months since the military seized power in a coup, the hugely popular politician will face trial in a Naypyidaw court on five charges including the illegal possession of walkie-talkies and breaking coronavirus restrictions while campaigning for elections. Military officials have also accused her of corruption and violating the colonial-era Official Secrets Act.

At 75-years-old, Aung San Suu Kyi is facing prison sentences that could put her in jail for the rest of her life, permanently sidelining her from a political arena she has defined for decades.

Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya — currently living in exile in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius — has called for harsher sanctions against strongman Alexander Lukashenko's regime, adding this is the only effective way to put pressure on him and his administration.

"Lukashenko only understands the language of force and economic sanctions. This is the mechanism that should be used ... the sanctions must be maximally tough," Tsikhanouskaya told DW in an interview Saturday while on a two-day visit to Berlin.

Israel's new Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has vowed to unite the nation frayed by four elections in two years of political stalemate. He said his government "will work for the sake of all the people", adding that the priorities would be reforms in education, health and cutting red tape.

The right-wing nationalist will lead an unprecedented coalition of parties backed by MPs in Sunday's 60-59 vote. He succeeds Benjamin Netanyahu who was forced out of office after 12 years. Mr Bennett, leader of Yamina party, will be prime minister until September 2023 as part of a power-sharing deal. He will then hand power over to Yair Lapid, head of the centrist Yesh Atid, for a further two years.

China has warned the G7 leaders that the days when a "small" group of countries decided the fate of the world were long gone. The comments, by a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in London, come as the leaders, who are meeting in England, seek a unified position over China. They adopted a spending plan in response to a massive Chinese scheme.

A spokesman for the Chinese embassy in London was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying: "The days when global decisions were dictated by a small group of countries are long gone. "We always believe that countries, big or small, strong or weak, poor or rich, are equals, and that world affairs should be handled through consultation by all countries."

The gang shot residents, attacked farmers in their fields and pursued others who fled to escape the assaults.

Zamfara police spokesman Mohammed Shehu said 14 bodies had been taken to the state capital Gusau on Friday, and added that “policemen [were] deployed in the area following the attacks.” Local residents said 39 more bodies had been recovered and buried in the neighbouring town of Dauran.

A mystery bidder has paid $28m (£20m) for a seat on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's first crewed spaceflight by the billionaire's Blue Origin company. This winning bid was made at Saturday's auction, with Blue Origin tweeting that the winner's identity would be revealed in the coming weeks.

The other two crew members of the 20 July flight are Mr Bezos' brother Mark and an unnamed space tourist. After a nearly month-long bidding process the top bid had stood at just under $5m - but once Saturday's online auction got under way that figure rose more than five times. "The winning bid amount will be donated to Blue Origin's foundation,

Israel's parliament is expected to approve the formation of a new government, ending 12 years of rule by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The prospective government - an unprecedented coalition of parties - has a razor-thin majority of one seat. Right-wing nationalist Naftali Bennett is poised to become PM in a power-sharing deal with a centrist leader.

Under the coalition agreement, Mr Bennett, who heads the Yamina party, will hold office until September 2023, when he will hand over to Yair Lapid, leader of Yesh Atid, for a further two years. Mr Netanyahu - Israel's longest-serving leader, who has dominated its political landscape for years - would remain head of the right-wing Likud party and become leader of the opposition.
