How to analyse mains tests papers?

1) Don’t judge by the marks that you are getting in mock tests

In CSE 2019, I got 320 in GS (all 4) in VisionIAS tests series. Final marks was 428.
In CSE 2020, I got 428 in mocks, final marks was 424

In CSE 2019, in GS 2 mock test, I had got 65 marks in mock. I was disappointed but then I saw message of Kanishk Kataria sir. He had also gotten 66 marks in one of the papers in mock tests, but in final exam he had got 100+. I too scored 103 in GS 2 in CSE 2019.

2) Do Self Analysis- compare it with your earlier mock papers. Try to improve rather than focusing on marks. Remember- You are the BEST JUDGE of yourself.

2021-12-13 21:00:15 This is the 2nd iteration of Full Test that I had given last year. You can notice small improvements over the last ones
Me and my friend checked this copy. So I just went to market, bought the booklet for Rs 30/40, wrote test in my room and later with the help of my friend checked it and gave roughly around 100 marks. So this tests copies cannot be find on any platform

2021-12-09 22:36:20 Other telegram channel that I had referred

1) Kanishk Kataria and Shreyans Kumat’s sir channel (now not active)

2) Target UPSC- specially for Prelims 2019. This channel is run by Sudarshan Lodha Sir (have cleared cse). I had followed Target UPSC YouTube channel also selectively for Prelims 2020. Used their free videos/materials only. It was helpful

3) UPSC highlights- issues explained : I used this for interview CSE 2020. It can be used for mains

I had covered mains365- social, economics and IR after 10th December. I devoted 6-8 hrs for each mains 365

So in 2.5 days, I completed these 3 mains365 and also made short notes of all 3.

Always devote time beforehand m to whatever you are reading now. For example while revising geography static, I thought of giving only 6-7 hrs. So I revised my notes with that speed only- focusing mainly on important things and ignoring the specific details.

Mains is more about broader understanding.

Some people might be having issues ranging from personal problems, family problems to ‘not getting leaves for mains’ (professional problems)

Remember that everyone of us face some kind of problems. You can find many people clearing CSE even after many of these problems.

I was devastated in December 2020 when I came to know that I have to report to IDAS academy 3 weeks prior to mains 2020. Then I thought and my friend told that we don’t have any control over time that will be wasted in completing joining formalities (IDAS), but we do have have control over other time/days. Later although I was allowed to join online

I know many selected candidates who got leave from their jobs just 2 days prior to Mains.

So don’t feel bad about your situation. Always try to find a solution and perform your best of your capabilities.

With less than only one month to go for mains 2021, I hope that everyone is studying in full pace. I would like to share few things

1) If you have not written Full test and Essay till now, please please write it in next 1 week. Remember this- if you think that you are not prepared enough, you are not alone. Even I had the same feeling till 24-25th December

But if you are not writing tests, then you are at disadvantageous position clearly.

2) I wrote 8 Full Tests and 2 essays between 10th December and 26th December. Try to implement whatever you have studied till now

3) Make short notes - which you can revise one day before exam and in breaks

4) Essay- if you have not devoted separate time for essay then please do. Devote 3-4 days separately for essays. This will give you more returns as increasing marks in essay is relatively easier then GS

It is never too late. Even if you study for next 1 month diligently, with proper planning and without feeling low, you will be able to revise maximum topics.

Best wishes
