President Halimah Yacob and Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing presented the awards to the SkillsFuture Fellowships & SkillsFuture Employer Award recipients today.
A total of 23 Singaporeans who are skilled masters and champions of lifelong learning were conferred the SkillsFuture Fellowships, while 28 exemplary employers who are strong advocates of continuous learning at the workplace and invested in their employees’ skills development were presented the SkillsFuture Employer Awards.
In his speech, Minister Chan spoke on the importance of employers in promoting and embracing lifelong learning and how they should invest in training their existing pool of workers rather than hire individuals from the market to plug the skills gap. Likewise, individuals should have a curiosity to learn, by proactively planning their career growth and upskilling journey.

Minister Chan Chun Sing announced the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) as the National Centre of Excellence for Adult Learning (NCAL) at the second day of the Global Lifelong Learning Summit. The newly designated NCAL will anchor capabilities and raise the quality of Training and Adult Education in Singapore.
Minister Chan also participated in a dialogue, together with the Australian Minister for Skills and Training, Mr Brendan O’Connor. They discussed the synergies between individuals, institutions and industries in training up the workforce in skills which businesses need.

SkillsFuture Singapore and the Institute for Adult Learning organised the inaugural Global Lifelong Learning Summit (GLLS) 2022 today, which continues tomorrow. The GLLS brings together academics, leaders of international organisations, industry captains and government administrators all over the world to discuss how different stakeholders can build a lifelong learning system that is relevant and effective.
Senior Minister Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the Guest-of-Honour at the GLLS, spoke on the need to build a lifelong learning system which ensures progress for everyone, especially the blue-collar and non-professional white-collar workers, the mid-career workers as well as the SME workers. He outlined three key planks for a successful lifelong learning system:
• the need to anticipate the demand for skills and apply to training content and courses
• the need to aggregate the information across various adult learning platforms
• for the new system to embrace a wider range of credentials and qualifications

SSG has signed an MOU with the Institute for Adult Learning Singapore and SUTD Singapore University of Technology & Design to drive cyber-physical learning in the fields of higher education and lifelong learning. The collaboration includes a joint Living Lab, which will allow the study of "live" interaction between the instructors and learners, and use the insights to develop andragogies, professional practices and educational innovations for adult educators and CET learners, leading to higher quality and relevant training for Singaporeans.
