The shift of paradigm centred on the U.S. pivot away from West Asia naturally impacts on Iran’s JCPOA calculus, Alastair Crooke writes.

Joaquin @NewResistance and Tim @timkirbyhardcore discuss his article.

2021-05-17 22:07:20 This American lacuna is not confined to Iran.

The world has changed decisively, yet America seems to be pursuing its policies of yesteryear. Read more by Alastair Crooke

America’s Crumbling Infrastructure: Transit

Every four years the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) measures the conditions of bridge, water and transportation infrastructure within the US and publishes its findings through the Infrastructure Report Card. In 2021, America’s Cumulative Infrastructure Grade is C-, that is worse than “mediocre”. Transit got a D- grade.

2021-05-17 21:47:55 America is using its post-WWII position of being the world’s hegemon, so as to compel every other nation either to join them (as a banana republic or vassal nation) or else to become their enemy by destroying them.

America’s response to the increasing economic success of China and other nations that until recent decades were impoverished former colonies is to organize its own allies — especially the English-speaking countries — to become a totally separate global economic trading and military alliance standing against that “third world” — and thereby force all non-aligned nations to have to either choose to be allied with the United States or else become conquered by the U.S. and its allies. It’s “Us,” or “Them,” all the way. The top “enemies” (the “Them”) are the same countries that America and its allies were against during the anti-communist Cold War, Russia and China, even though Russia is no longer communist, and China has become a mixture between communism and capitalism.

America has on its side Saudi Arabia, Israel, Qatar, UAE, and all four of the fascist nations during World War II: Germany, Japan, Italy, and Spain — as well as many other nations. Read more by Eric Zuesse

2021-05-17 21:44:07 Xinjiang is seen in a pivotal strategic role on the Great Chessboard.

That most certainly is not because of possible human rights abuses that might be occurring there, if indeed they are, but for entirely different, hard-nosed geopolitical reasons. Read more by Stephen Karganovic

2021-05-17 21:40:20 It might well be Michel Bernier who emerges as a veiled presidential anti-EU runner in France’s presidential elections in 2022, Martin Jay writes.

Hardly a day passes since Brexit, when the EU doesn’t appear to be in some kind of political tailspin. The constant petulant attacks on the UK by both France and Brussels, which only make the EU look like a really sour loser, are trumped by the relentless comical calamity of a vaccine crisis.

2021-05-17 21:35:43 Europe may remain pristine, or so it thinks, but its colonial legacy remains an open wound, Ramona Wadi writes.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the European Union enhanced its exclusionary politics with regard to asylum seekers. A drop in people applying for asylum was linked to the cessation of travel, as countries closed their borders and asylum seeker applications dropped by 87 percent in March and April 2020. In the few instances where asylum seekers managed to get closer to Europe, governments had a convenient weapon to wield. Covid19 had provided a much-welcomed respite for European governments who still refuse to come to terms with the fact that their colonial heritage keeps reaping undesired effects.
