A child who’s gotten punished and asked to stand in a corner to reflect will have no capacity to reflect. Trying to talk sense and logic or giving solutions when a child has gotten emotional would likely fuel the spiraling into the terror brain state. A constantly aroused and alarmed brain in a constantly stressful environment marked by threats of punishment and detachment would likely be mostly showing fight, flight, freeze or fawn reactions to protect oneself, unable to engage in problem-solving.
