What's new:

Warning: After one of the upcoming Bot API updates, user identifiers will become bigger than 2^31 - 1 and it will be no longer possible to store them in a signed 32-bit integer type. User identifiers will have up to 52 significant bits, so a 64-bit integer or double-precision float type would still be safe for storing them. Please make sure that your code can correctly handle such user identifiers.

The Telegram Support section updated on the FAQ page. The list gained one new item: it's an official bot where press representatives can leave questions — @PressBot.

To get a comment on a question related to the functioning of the messenger, journalists need to specify the name of their organization and leave the question.

Due to claims from regulators, the TON project had to be closed. The launch date (April 2020) was disrupted. This, by agreement with investors, imposed an obligation on Telegram to return 72% of the investment.

The Telegram presentation states that out of the $ 1 billion attracted, $ 684 million can go to pay off debts in 2021 (what this amount consists of, it is not specified).

Telegram plans to spend the money remaining after settling on debts from the bond issue in the following proportions:

• 35% - equipment. Telegram will continue to invest in its own servers and network equipment so as not to depend on third-party cloud providers.
• 25% - user verification. The company sends sms to each user during registration to make sure that his number is up to date;
• 15% - employee benefits.
• 15% - rent of space in data processing centers + 5% - Internet traffic providers;

Users of Telegram for Android version 7.5 may have encountered the problem of installing APK applications from the messenger.

A pop-up notification indicates that there is no application to work with this file type.

The problem has been seen on smartphones: Xiaomi, Asus, OnePlus, and some Samsung devices.

Workaround: Save apk in downloads, and install with any file manager.

UPD: The problem has been fixed in the updated version 7.5 (2246).

Auto-Delete Messages
• Set messages to auto-delete for everyone 24 hours or 7 days after sending.
• Control auto-delete settings in any of your chats, as well as in groups and channels where you are an admin.
• To enable auto-delete, right click on the chat in the chat list > Clear History > Enable Auto-Delete.

Expiring Invite Links for Groups and Channels
• Create invite links that work for a limited time or a limited number of uses.
• See which users joined using your, or your admins’, invite links.
• Turn any invite link into a QR code users can scan with their phone cameras.
• To manage invite links, click ⋮ > Manage Group/Channel > Invite Links.

Groups with Unlimited Members
• Convert groups that have reached 200,000 members into unlimited Broadcast Groups.

Better chat import
• When importing messages from other apps, messages will be sorted chronologically now – but only if you imported it into a chat with less than 1000 messages.
